ABOUT THE TEAM
Our team is made up of a diverse group of individuals who love the sport of gymnastics! Regardless of whether you've been doing gymnastics your entire life, regret quitting when you were younger, or simply want to learn how to do a backflip, we're here for you. Emory Gymnastics is also a great way to meet new people both at Emory and at schools across the country.
Coaches and Training
We have two coaches that both work at the Intown Gymnastics, which is where we hold our practices, and are certified to coach beginners through level 10. There is no experience necessary for our team, and undergraduates as well as graduate students are welcome to join and compete (NAIGC also allows grad students to compete with undergrads).
Competition and Nationals
Emory Gymnastics competes in the National Association of Intercollegiate Gymnastics Clubs (NAIGC). In order to compete at Nationals, you must first compete in two other meets throughout the year, and have at least two routines prepared. Our typical season involves trips to Virginia Tech, University of Florida, Kennesaw State University, University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill, and a few varying schools tossed in. We often compete against these teams along with Clemson, University of North Carolina at Wilmington, Florida State University, and many many other teams. Click here for a full list of competing schools.
The women’s team is judged with USAG Level 9 standards, with some modification. The men are also judged by Junior Olympic Level 9 standards on all events except for vault. For more information on men's scoring, visit 2013 NAIGC Men's Judging Rules. However, we do not require competitors to meet these standards in order to compete.
Emory provides our team with a lot of supplemental funding so we can make meets as affordable as possible to members. We use that money and dues to pay for our weekend meets, and often fundraise for Nationals. The team covers hotel, transportation, and the entrance fee. Payments must be made for food.
